Today, ventral and dorsal pancreatic resections are considered the procedures of choice for low-grade malignant neoplasm. Important particularities in embryology and the anatomy of the pancreas are being continually updated. The anatomy of the head of the pancreas was studied on 10 fresh and 10 fixed in formalin specimens, collected from cadavers of persons without pancreatic injuries between 18 and 85 years of age. In the anatomical presentation, the uncinate process was considered as point of orientation for separation and penetration into the interpancreatic fissure. Presence of a well defined layer of lax tissue between the ventral and dorsal parts of the pancreatic head facilitates their separation. The ventral portion is adhered to the dorsal portion only by perforating vessels. The ventral portion is connected to the dorsal portion by loose tissue. A complete fusion between the ventral and dorsal pancreas is determined only in the upper 1/3 of the head of the pancreas. The ventral portion can be removed without affecting duodenal blood circulation. |
