Rezumat

The interaction of sclareol with cation exchange resin KU-23 in a range of solvents
(CH2Cl2, C2H5OH, i-C3H7OH, CH3CO2C2H5 and Nefras) was studied [1]. Nefras – a mixture of
hexane-heptane (b.p.70-80oC), proved to be convenient for preparative purposes. Reflux of
sclareol in this solvent (90-120 min) with KU-23 (5:1) leads to the formation of complex
mixtures of compounds for the new Aroma Tabacco L.M.
The GC-MS analyses confirmed the complex nature of this product composition, which
includes the same substances detected in high quality tobacco. In particular, cis-Abienol [2] was
found (8.835%) for the first time in sclareol transformation products, including also other
compounds like manoiloxides, manools, labdadienols and hydrocarbons - 27 components in all.
Analyses have been performed on an Agilent 7890A Gas Chromatograph with 5975C Mass
Selective Detector (GC-MSD) equipped with split/splitless injector and HP-5ms capillary
column (30m/0,25μm).
The Aroma Tabacco L.M. is currently used as aroma composition for Tutun CTC [3].
