Rezumat

Calix[n]arenes are self-assembling systems possessing large cavities and able to trap large molecules in molecular cavity and/or in the crystal lattice. The study of biological and biomedical properties of water-soluble p-sulfonatocalix[n]arenes is receiving growing interest due to their ability to complex various molecules in aqueous phase and to act as direct bio-active molecules. In order to better understand the mechanism of this activity the investigation of calixarene complexation of cationic groups present in biomacromolecules is necessary. The solid-state structures of the complexes of the p-sulfonatocalix[n]arenes with organic amines, both aliphatic and heterocyclic, and drugs, such as chlorhexidine, tetracaine, tamoxifen and piribedil will be presented. The role of hydrogen bonding and non-covalent interactions will be discussed.figureInclusion complexes of p-sulfonatocalixarenes with chlorhexidine and cyclohexanediamine
