Rezumat

Calix-type, synthetic macrocyclic host molecules, are well known ligands widely studied for their ability to include a wide range of neutral and ionic guest species. A number of structures of 4-membered calix-type compounds and their complexes are known. Much less reports can be found on larger 5- and 6-membered macrocycles, and only few on ≥8-membered ones. On the other hand ligands with extended cavities are expected to complex larger guest molecules and/or to form larger supramolecular assemblies for study of e.g., specific intermolecular interactions. In this presentation dependence between the size of the macrocycle and the size of the intramolecular cavity will be discussed.
