This article aims at examining the desirability of using one of the two language teaching approaches: the monolingual approach, which calls for the elimination of translation, or the bilingual approach, which emphasizes the introduction of translation when teaching a foreign language. It also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using translation in the EFL classroom. It is suggested to engage the Mother tongue and translation in the lesson in certain situations as it can diminish the strain of both learners and professors, it can also facilitate learners to comprehend the language matter better and it helps to maintain the dynamics of the class; the excessive application of the mother tongue is not advisable. |
