Astăzi, atât în procesul de creaţie al plasticienilor şi cineaştilor cât şi în cel al teoreticienilor din acest domeniu, concomitent cu alte probleme (modalităţile de proiecţie ale spaţiului tridimensional pe o suprafaţă plană, mecanismele de redare ale mişcării, efectele estetice ale unghiulaţiei), se impune şi expresivitatea materiei filmate prin crearea iluziei de profunzime şi dinamism, graţie utilizării artistice a luminii (eclerajul) — aspectul ce ne interesează în acest studiu. Evoluţia filmului de artă — o categorie deosebită în contextul filmului de nonficţiune — este condiţionată de utilizarea diverselor tehnici şi modalităţi de expresie împrumutate din arsenalul limbajului cinematografic deja afirmat. Astfel, în arta cinematografică lumina a obţinut un caracter polifuncţional, oferind filmului valenţe dramatice sau poetice conform condiţiilor naraţiunii sale. Toate aceste idei vor fi argumentate cu exemple de filme despre artă din cinematografia autohtonă şi din cea europeană.

Today in the process of creation of both the plastic artists and filmmakers, as well as the theoreticians of these fields, together with other problems such as the methods of projection of the three‑dimensional space on a flat surface, the mechanisms of conveying the movement, the aesthetic effects of the angulation, the expressiveness of the filmed material is also imperative by creating the illusion of depth and dynamism, thanks to the artistic use of light (eclear) — the aspect that interests us in this study. The evolution of art film, a special category in the context of the non‑fiction film, is conditioned by the use of various techniques and modalities of expression borrowed from the arsenal of the cinematic language already affirmed. Thus, in cinematographic art, light has acquired a polyfunctional character, giving the film dramatic or poetical valences according to the conditions of its narrative. All these ideas will be argued with examples of films about art in the native and European cinema.
