The role of the specialists who know how to locate and index information increases along with the increase of the volume of information available in the Internet. Librarians owe to the Internet their specific skills of how to structure the information in order it to be more visible during the searching process. Technologies are useless if the information can not be located, filtered, organized and accessed. Traditionally librarians are at the forefront of information dissemination, and they are going to remain there if they will develop skills which will permit them to make technology to work for the benefit of libraries, and hence for the users’ benefit. With constant changes taking place in all spheres of human activity, library effectiveness will depend increasingly on the development and practical application of librarians’ skills and flexibility, and their ability to adapt to these changes. All this requires an update of the professional, personal and technological competences of a modern librarian.
