Rezumat | |||||||
In the wake of ongoing escalation of tensions in Eastern Ukraine, the issue of frozen conflicts in the ex-Soviet space has regained international attention. The current paper is part of a broader project and discusses the long-disputed territories of South Ossetia, Abkhazia, and Transnistria. By evaluating the perspectives of the main parties involved in these deadlocks, it will be argued that Russia along with the United States of America represent the chief actors capable of getting the conflicts „defrosted.” Furthermore, the author will stress that after the end of the Cold War, as a result of new emerging unipolar international system, Moscow and Washington have adopted a certain stance towards the new global order. Therefore, it will be pointed out how the new dialogue prevents concerted actions be taken towards finding viable solutions for the frozen conflicts. Finally, new approaches on how the conflicts resolution could become more palpabale will be set forth and reflected upon in conjuncion with the Eastern Ukraininan crisis. |
