Rezumat

The pathogenetic contribution of oxidative stress (OS) in the evolution of stroke is determined by the excess of free oxygen radicals which in conditions of ischemia and hypoxia will damage the lipid and protein structures in the cell membrane and its organs, imminent process of lipid and protein peroxidation. The aim of the study was the assessment of changes in OS activity in the complex treatment of stroke patients. Erythrocyte and serum OS markers were determined in 140 stroke patients, in 3 groups, according to the objectives set. The determined OS marker was used as a reference marker in 30 apparently healthy people (control group). The functional capacity of the antioxidant system is significantly compromised in patients with stroke, being significantly impaired in the erythrocyte and serum content of enzymatic components (SOD, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase). The additional administration to the basic treatment for 2 months of the lipid-lowering remedy or the antioxidant remedy led to the notable attenuation of the oxidative stress attested at a distance of 30 and, in particular, 60 days, the more accentuated effect being detected in the group with the antioxidant preparation.
