Rezumat

Varda in L' Opéra Mouffe offers a cinematographic variant of the concept of public space. The complexities of street life are reconstructed through simplification and fragmentation for wide lenses. Public space is reduced to a single element, a single figure, a single portrayal. The connections made between the eye of the camera which perceives objects, gestures, and the succinct presentation of anonymous characters on the street opens the possibility to investigate the public space through ethics. This type of investigation is proposed by this article to understand the non-aggressive mechanisms of communication and ethics of the public space which Varda suggests in her work.
