Pentru realizarea acestei cercetări, mulțumim suportului oferit de Institutul Cultural Român prin acordarea unei burse pentru cercetători străini, având drept subiect de cercetare „Problema Basarabiei în presa românească (1876-1878)”. Demersul nostru urmărește ecourile problemei Basrabiei în ziarul românesc „Steaua Romaniei” în perioada ianuarie-iulie 1878. Perioada este una sugestivă deoarece coincide cu enunțarea pretenției Rusiei față de România, de a anexa sudului Basarabiei, prin sosirea contelui N. P. Ignatiev la București, și se încheie cu decizia Congresului de la Berlin, prin care România pierde sudul Basarabiei, iar drept compensanție primește Dobrogea. Se va arăta starea de spirit ce domnea la Iași față de această pierdere teritorială, și care a fost poziția acestui ziar față de guvernarea liberală condusă de Ion C. Brătianu.

Our approach follows the echoes of the Bessarabia problem in the roumanian newspaper „Steaua Romaniei” between January and July 1878. The period is suggestive because it coincides with the statement of Russia’s claim to Romania, to annex the southern of Bessarabia, through the arrival of Count N. P. Ignatiev in Bucharest, and ends with the decision of the Berlin Congress, whereby Romania loses the south of Bessarabia, and receives Dobrogea as compensation. It will show the state of mind that reigned in Iași in relation to this territorial loss, and what was the position of this newspaper in relation to the liberal government led by Ion C. Brătianu.
