Rezumat

The modification of the acoustic phonon spectrum in ultrathin heterostructures with large acoustic impedance mismatched layers was analyzed. To solve the elasticity equation, the free-surface boundary (FSB) conditions at the outside boundaries of the heterostructure were used. The mean polarization vectors of the normal modes in the core layer of the heterostructure were compared with the mean square polarization vectors in slabs. The results show that the predicted phonon depletion effect in the core layer of the acoustically mismatched heterostructured may lead to increased carrier mobility in certain regions of the heterostructure and improved thermal management of the heterostructure-based devices.
