Rezumat | |||||||
Evangelical movements entered Bessarabia through German settlers, Molokans, Stundists and Baptists refugees from Russia due to persecution. Ieremia Cioban from Bender is the first Romanian who embraced the faith of the Stundists, for which he was tried, imprisoned and exiled to the Caucasus. The Molocans did not register conversions from among the Romanians of Bessarabia. The Bessarabian Romanians who worked or studied in Odessa converted after attending the Baptist church in that city. Baptist missionaries from Kyiv came to Soroca and registered conversions among the Romanians in that region. The Baptist faith registered the largest number of converts among Bessarabian Romanians and today it has become the second denomination in the country registering over 32,500 believers. |
