Introduction. In the process of studying the Romanian language as a foreign language, we will face a series of challenges, from simple to complex, both as professors and as students of the Faculty of Medicine. Among the common difficulties encountered by teachers and students studying the Romanian language, especially the foreign ones, are those related to grammatical, lexical and terminological aspects. Objective of the study. The proposed goal is to identify and to analyze the difficulties related to teaching / learning medical terminology by foreign students, as well as proposing methods for teaching medical terminology to facilitate its assimilation by the students. Materials and methods. The methods of investigation are theoretical and praxiological: scientific documentation, observation, and analysis of the investigated material. Results. At the lexical and terminological levels, teaching / learning difficulties are related to the structure of terms (suffixes, prefixes, roots that go into the structure of medical terms; most medical terms come from Greek and Latin. Roots of Latin origin describe the anatomical structure, and those of Greek origin - pathological processes, names of diseases, treatments); Terms that change the meaning in medical context (sacral, temporal, angina (tonsillitis and angina pectoris); branches of medicine (myelitis, in neurology means inflammation of the spinal cord, and in orthopedics - inflammation of the bone marrow); eponyms, synonyms, abbreviations, acronyms, abbreviations of Latin origin, Greek-Latin doublets. Conclusions. Teaching/ learning of medical language is one of the important components of the professional formation of future doctors, who must be able to understand correctly the messages sent by the patient, to know and use the acts of communication suitable for pre-clinical, clinical, post-clinical communication. |
