Introduction: In the structure of the causes of the development of cerebrovascular insufficiency, the pathological tortuosity of the internal carotid artery ranks second after the atherosclerotic damage. The prevalence of pathological tortuosity in the general population is estimated to be from 12 to 43%, and from 16% to 56% of patients have transient or permanent neurological deficit in anamnestic. Scope of work: Evaluation of immediate postoperative efficacy and evaluation of periprocedural complications in patients diagnosed with pathological tortuosity of the carotid artery, subjected to surgical treatment. Material and methods: The study is a retrospective analysis of 35 patients treated within the Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital, Department of Vascular Surgery in the period 2017-2022. Indications for surgical treatment were dependent on the degree of cerebrovascular insufficiency and hemodynamic changes in the tortuosity area Results: 38 surgeries were performed on patients undergoing the study. Immediate results were: in 30 patients (85.71%, p – 0.01) the symptoms of cerebrovascular insufficiency were highlighted. In 28 patients (80%, p-0.01) the hemodynamic indicators improved. Acute cerebrovascular syndromes, acute coronary syndrome or death was not recorded in any patient in the study group. Postoperative bleeding was recorded in 1 patient (2.8%, P – 0.14). Conclusions: Considering the low rate of periprocedural complications as well as the immediate obvious efficacy, also the epidemiological data that imprint a special place in the structure of the cerebrovascular failure of the pathological tortuosities of the internal carotid artery – surgical resolution is a good way to prevent acute ischemic cerebral attacks and to improve the life of patients. |
