Rezumat

Throughout history, humans have created various methods in order to balance work and rest. Whether we are talking about sports, artistic activities, with different degrees of physical involvement, doing these activities improves the individual and, in extenso, the communities. I will focus below on the activity involving non-formal live music – as a leisure activity with the direct involvement of the participants – and on the positive effects generated in the target group, an activity here conceptually called "campfire singing session". What are the resources needed to make such an event happen? First of all, a musical leader, meaning a creative musician, who has the ability to perform vocally and instrumentally a variety of songs of different styles and with an organizational spirit that allows him to moderate the spontaneous musical session. Secondly, there must be a group that joins the musical leader, singing and continuously proposing new songs to be sung. If these two key elements of the evening are provided, a series of variables are automatically deduced, such as duration, number of participants, vocal-instrumental formula (possible intervention of accessible percussion instruments), extended manifestation to the choreographic area, etc. The therapeutic quality of music is well known, and its effect can be even stronger when involving directly in the performance. Beyond this aspect, an event such as the "campfire singing session" also contributes to social cohesion, through artistic interaction, which outlines the individual's sense of belonging to the group, so necessary for self-esteem.
