Articolul prezintă date inedite din istoria municipiului Buzău. Cercetarea se axează, în particular, pe istoria patrimoniului material al municipiului Buzău. Se reconstruiește istoria parcurilor din orașul Buzău înainte de Primul Război Mondial și a Palatului Comunal după 1944. În anii Vechiului Regat, orașul Buzău a cunoscut un interesant proces de modernizare. Edilii buzoieni au încercat în anii de dinaintea Primului Război Mondial să aducă oraşul la standarde europene. După 1877, Buzăul începe o serie de acţiuni de modernizare şi înfrumuseţare. Drept urmare, aspectul orașului s-a schimbat destul de mult. Primăria a acordat atenție întreținerii parcurilor publice, prin plantarea puieţilor, instalarea statuilor și a clădirilor de agrement. Crângul a intrat şi el în vederile edililor pentru a fi transformat într-o grădină publică veritabilă. În timpul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial, până în august 1944, Buzăul a fost relativ puțin afectat. După 23 august situația s-a schimbat dramatic, iar pe teritoriul orașului s-au purtat lupte grele cu armata germană. În ziua de 27 august 1944, Palatul Comunal a ars în totalitate. Autoritățile locale au început, în toamna anului 1944, lucrările de restaurare a acestuia. În 1949 se încheie astfel refacerea Palatului Comunal, dar din motive financiare, interiorul nu a fost niciodată restaurat autentic. Palatul Municipal a renăscut însă, spre bucuria locuitorilor.

The article presents new data from the history of the municipality of Buzău. The research focuses, in particular, on the history of the material heritage of the municipality of Buzău. The history of the parks in the city of Buzău before the First World War and of the Municipal Palace after 1944 is being reconstructed. During the years of the Old Kingdom, the city of Buzau experienced an interesting modernization process. After 1877, Buzăul began a series of modernization and beautification actions. As a result, the appearance of the city has changed quite a bit. After August 23, the situation changed dramatically, and heavy battles were fought with the German army on the territory of the city. On August 27, 1944, the Municipal Palace burned completely. The local authorities began, in the fall of 1944, the works to restore it. In 1949, the restoration of the Municipal Palace was completed, but for financial reasons, the interior was never authentically restored. However, the Municipal Palace was reborn, to the joy of the residents.
