Rezumat

Soil is an abiotic factor that plays an important role in the tobacco production and its quality. The article analyses the requirements for the soil that each type of tobacco has. Thus, Burley tobacco is grown in the North of Moldova on the fertile, loam soil, Macrofi l tobacco is cultivated on deep, light soils, poor in nutrients which can be found on the entire territory of the Republic. Trapezond tobacco is produced on rocky salty clay loam, less fertile, permeable and warm, whereas Virginia is cultivated in the Center of Moldova on levigated Chernozem – a warm and permeable soil. Tobacco plants have high requirements regarding nutrition: the quantity and ration of fertilizing elements depending on the type of the tobacco, soil and ecological zone. It has been observed that tobacco is a big consumer of potassium and calcium, a medium consumer of nitrogen and it consumes small amounts of phosphor. The mineral fertilizers that are used for tobacco are Ammonium Nitrate (NH3NO3) for alkaline soils, Ammonium sulfate [(NH4)2SO4] for acid soils, calcium nitrate [Ca(NO3)2], Triple superphosphate [Ca(H2PO4)2.H2O], potassium sulfate (K2SO4). The application of fertilizers in spring using band placement method at 15-16 cm depth increases the production by 13.5%/ha.
