The paper presents the results of the study of the biological features and chemical composition of the essential oil of new medicinal plants for Moldova – Monarda fistulosa L. and Helichrisum italicum (Roth) Guss. The purpose of the research is to study growing opportunity these species in the condition of Moldova, which are significantly different from the regions of natural growing of these species. The genus Helichrisum belongs to the family of Asteraceae and consist up to 500 species, widespread throughout the world. Helichrisum italicum (Roth)Guss naturally occurs in the Mediterranean areas and its extracts are used in popular medicine in these region. The plants of H.italicum has a great reputation in traditional medicine due to their antimicrobial, anti-oxidant antiviral properties. Monarda fistulosa L. grows wild in North America and is known for its anti-septic, anti- fungal properties. Essential oil from both species was obtained from freshly cut plants collected in the mass flowering stage. In the environmental conditions of Moldova, a high yield of essential oil (2,4–3,7%) is typical for Monarda. The main components of essential oil of M.fistulosa L. are timol (40,0–56,6%) and carvacrol (18,7–46.0%), besides1,4-cineol (4,1–11,9%), p-cimen (3,2–3,8%) and in small quantities linalool (1,7%), linalilacetat (1,2%). Hydro distillation of H. iitalicum of aerial parts give pale yellow oil with a yield of 0,7%. This oil was characterized by the dominance of sesquiterpenes (over 30%), Oxigen- containing monoterpenes (mainly limonene – 5,55%), neril acetat up to 24,0%. According to our obtained results, the chemical composition of the essential oil of H.italicum grown in Moldova is different from those in other countries. The difference is characterized by the presence of neril acetat, a-curcumen, Y-cadinen, D-limonen as the majoritarian constituents and by the small percentage of nerol (0,4%), a-pinen (0,3%) and absence of geranil acetat. |
