The grape variety Afoos was obtained in Greece in 2002 by crossing grape varieties Mavrodafni with Alicante Bouchet. Synonyms: Aion Oros, Holy Mountain, Afon. The author of this grape variety is P. Zamanidi. After morpho - physiological characteristics it refers to the varieties group Black Sea (convar pontica Negr. Subconvar balcanica Negr). The duration from the beginning of bud burst to harvest - is 146-155 days. The variety is average growing. The productivity is 20-25 t/ha. The bunch is conical with a wing. The average weight of a bunch is 180 g. Berries are medium or small, oval, blueblack with a thick waxy coating. The pulp and juice – are intensely colored with flavour characteristic to variety. Sugar content of berries is high. The number of seeds in a berry is one - two. The variety can be used both for production of red intensely colored wines, and for high-quality colored juices. |
