The fundamental characteristics of the labor market are demand and supply, production and unemployment. Employment and unemployment determine the level of income of the population. Under normal conditions, the unemployed may look for new places in the market. However, the pandemic crisis has covered up or bankrupted many companies, making it difficult to find employment. Structural differences in the European labor market can be explained by the different flexibility of the labor market depending on the country. The parameter is also related to the quality of social protection. In the Scandinavian countries, the flexibility model allows for easier layoffs, but at the same time offers a high level of insurance coverage combined with an active return-to-work assistance policy. Factors that place these countries among the countries with the lowest unemployment rates in Europe. |
