The author makes a review of the bibliographic contributions concerning the study of the musical aspect of Christmas carols (colinde) in the Republic of Moldova. It points out the degree to which the researchers were concerned with the musical aspects, it presents the diversity of problems of the topic under research, the methods that were used in this field. It analyses the most important studies, articles, collections of musical folklore regarding the Christmas carol and the practice of carol-singing (colindatul) in the ethno folkloric space of the Republic of Moldova. It emphasizes that the studies analyzed the phenomenon from the following perspectives: the structural, the functional and the semantic ones. It asserts that there is no multidisciplinary research of the Christmas carol, neither one that would draw out a musical typology on the basis of a synoptic transcribed material, nor a monograph that would reflect all the constituent elements. This is why the ethnomusicologists and other researchers are to recover the less studied spaces from the repertory of carols interpreted by men, and to view critically the works of this domain.
