Based on UAR archive documents and on the prizes Jean Burcuş won in competitions presented in “Arhitectura”, the author presents the prolific activity of architect Jean Burcuş (1896-1987), son of architect Ştefan Burcuş (1871–1928), an important name of the beginnings of architecture in Romania. Jean Burcuş graduated the Higher School of Architecture in Bucharest, in 1924. Together with other architects, such as: Horia Creangă, Marcel Iancu, Duiliu Marcu, Petre Antonescu, G. M. Cantacuzino, Virginia Andreescu Haret, Henrieta Delavrancea-Gibory, Paul Smărăndescu, Ion C. Roşu, Octav Doicescu, Arghir Culina, Jean Monda, George Cristinel, George Damian, Florea Stănculescu, Ion I. Berindey, Tiberiu Niga, Alexandru Zamphiropol, Jean Burcuş is part of the gallery of Romanian architects from the interwar period, whose creations deserve to be known and protected. |
