The article raises the problem of increasing the effectiveness of the mental activity of university students. Attention is focused on the fact that effective thinking is necessary for an adequate perception of information, making the right decisions, presenting work results. The components of effective thinking are analyzed - logical, creative and strategic thinking. The development of effective thinking skills among university students is facilitated by lecture and seminar classes held both in the traditional and innovative formats. It is concluded that the skills of effective thinking of students can and should be trained.
