The article addresses the carols, which to the Romanian people are a tradition kept from ancestors, which is still practiced today. On the territory of our country, the carols initially had a ritual purpose - wishing for fertility and abundance, the custom being related to the beginning of the new agricultural year or its end (spring, autumn, respectively). Another common purpose of the carols was to drive away evil spirits and to invoke the souls of those who had passed away. In time, the initial significance of the carols preserved only the festive, ceremonial and greeting atmosphere. |
