Rezumat

The author analyzes the policy of Sfatul Țării (National Council of Bessarabia) on the incorporation of the Moldavian Democratic Republic to the Kingdom of Romania; the reaction of the government of the Ukrainian State to the possibility of the exclusion of Bessarabia; the efforts of the government of Soviet Russia to create the Bessarabian Soviet Socialist Republic at first, and then the Moldavian Autonomous Republic as part of the Soviet Ukraine (it was created on the territories where Moldovans were a minority population in order to have a bridgehead for the return of Bessarabia). The author points out that the state border did not prevent the formation of a single Ukrainian nation in two warring empires. It didn’t likewise prevent the formation of a single ethnic community in Moldova, Wallachia, Transylvania, and Bessarabia although these regions were in different states.
