Multilayered polymeric composites are used for various industrial applications where increased strength and stiffness are the goal. The core problem with the welding of such composites is to reach welds‟ strength equal to the strength of the basic material. Possibilities of butt-welding of three-layer polymeric “sandwich” composed of pure polypropylene layer, polypropylene filled with glass fibers and again pure polypropylene layer, were investigated. Usual hot plate butt welding enables reaching of only 70% strength of basic material due to interlayer transfer of polymeric materials (Fig. 1a). It is demonstrated that 100% strength of butt welds can be reached by using of special welding methods providing formation of unchanged threelayer structure similar to the structure of basic material. |
