Rezumat

Nowadays, the term fitness has evolved into a much broader, more comprehensive concept regarding life, namely the concept of “wellness” (“bien-être”). Daily stress can be fought against only through a good physical, mental, and spiritual condition. The term health has also evolved in the current period. From a modern standpoint, health is considered a state, a condition with several components: physical, psychological, and social. In any moment of a person‟s life, each of these health components may be characterized as having a positive or a negative level. In order to say of someone that he/she benefits from a positive health (a modern term, which defines a state that must represent the permanent goal of each of us), it is not enough for that person not to suffer from any disease. Nowadays, health can no longer be defined through a negation. Systematically and rationally organized physical activity through fitness programs may maintain or improve the structure of various tissues and organs (blood vessels, heart, muscles, tendons, bones, etc.), improve their functions, and stymie the inherent damage due to inactivity (sedentariness) and ageing. Fitness programs lead to a qualitative lifestyle (healthy – physically, mentally, and socially), they include reaching a high level of physical condition, and they determine a minimum risk of health declining. This state is known as optimal fitness or physical condition.
