Late Ny_aya and Navya-Ny_aya are renowned for their a_nity to Western formal logic. In their attempt to develop a kind of \logic of property and location" (Matilal) Navya-Naiy_ayikas came up with interesting new ideas concerning the interaction between logic and ontology. Some logical inquiries about properties in Navya-Ny_aya are related to similar problems in set theory, although the Navya-Ny_aya concept of property should not be confounded with the Western concept of set. In the present exposition of Navya-Ny_aya logic we outline a property-theoretic framework for a formal reconstruction and demonstrate its utility by referring to some pertinent examples, namely the NavyaNaiy_ayikas' operations applied to properties and relations, their discovery of theorems related to these operations and their account of the reference of number words. |
