The narrative type chosen by the prose-writer has a considerable impact on the reader. The two narrative types (homodiegetic and heterodiegetic) proposed by Jaap Lintvelt are applied to Leon Donici’s short prose. The author comes to the conclusion that there is no short prose that uses only one narrative type. Very often they alternate within the same narrative and sometimes within the same sentence. Leon Donici’s art of writing is revealed namely in a remarkable capacity to combine different forms of narration. Among Leon Donici’s short stories, „The story of an automobile” takes a notorious position. It is a unique literary work in Romanian literature. The narrator is a car brought from Russia to Bessarabia. This narrator analyzes the changes in society after the unification of the Romanian states.
