Among other facts, adduced previously by the author in favour of the autochthonous monogenesis of the infinitive loss in the Balkan area, there was also the neo-Balkan factor, i.e. the transmission of the tendency to languages brought to the Balkans relatively late. So is the Judeo-Spanish with its Balkan type turns, e.g. kale ke (f)aga, regarded as living
models reproducing what is supposed to have appeared in ancient times, when Greek, Latin and Slavonic were beginning to balkanize. However the Catalan type cal que faci seems to
disprove, at first glance, such a version. But as we take into account the long contact of the Catalan crusaders with Greece, we see how the cal que faci type, not attested by us in texts
previous to the Catalan invasion of Greece, could appear, thus also proving to be a probable Balkanism. |
