Rezumat

Introduction. Facial clefts are the most common congenital dysmorphisms. In the Republic of Moldova they occupy the second place of all congenital dysmorphisms. Although there are various methods of morphofunctional rehabilitation, the problem of cosmetological rehabilitation of the dentomaxillary aspect remains actual in the present. The aim of the study was the appreciation of the aesthetic aspect of the face in children with maxillofacial clefts and methods of amelioration. Materials and methods. 628 children with maxillofacial clefts were examined. The cosmetic appearance of the face was appreciated in children with congenital malformations in dynamics in the preoperative and postoperative periods and at a distance. Surgical treatments were performed in adult children in order to improve the aesthetic appearance. Results and discussion. Out of 629 children examined during 2008 - 2018, the most frequent clefts were the palatal median ones. The most severe from the aesthetic point of view were the total bilateral clefts and the unilateral ones. Le Fort I type osteotomies in adult children improve the aesthetic status of the face in these children. Conclusion. Morphofunctional multidisciplinary rehabilitation is recommended throughout the child’s growing period.
