The article is intended to examine the events that took place around the crossing of the Danube by the Persian king Darius I during his campaign against the Scythians at the end of the 6th century. BC The location of the crossing (floating bridge, pontoon type) is determined quite reliably, as has already been repeatedly stated in the literature. Near this place on the left bank of the river there is a famous archaeological site − the Kartal settlement. The monument is multi-layered. A full-fledged layer (settlement) of the Late Archaic era that would correspond to these events has not been identified. As you know, the period of operation of the crossing was very short. However, there is a small group of finds and individual complexes that may well be associated with it. Among the finds, imported Greek ceramics predominate, however, there are also those that can be attributed to the short-term stay of the Persians here. Some stories related to the arrangement of the crossing of the Danube in later times make it possible to make more understandable certain episodes that do not appear quite clearly in Herodotus’ story.

Articolul își propune să examineze evenimentele care au avut loc la presupusa traversare a Dunării de către regele persan Darius I în timpul campaniei sale împotriva sciților de la sfârșitul secolului al VI-lea. î.e.n.. Locația traversării (pod plutitor, de tip ponton) este stabilită în mod destul de sigur, așa cum s-a afirmat deja în repetate rânduri în literatura de specialitate. În apropierea acestui loc, pe malul stâng al fluviului, se află un sit arheologic renumit − așezarea Kartal. Așezarea are mai multe straturi cultural-cronologice. Însă, nu a fost identificat un strat cultural indiscutabil din epoca arhaică târzie care ar corespunde acestor evenimente. După cum este cunoscut, perioada de funcționare a trecerii peste Dunăre a fost foarte scurtă. Cu toate acestea, există un număr mic de descoperiri și complexe arheologice care ar putea fi asociate cu acesta. Printre descoperiri, predomină ceramica grecească importată, însă sunt și materiale care pot fi atribuite șederii pe termen scurt a perșilor pe acest loc. Unele povestiri legate de amenajarea a trecerii peste Dunăre în vremuri mai târzii permit să facă mai ușor de înțeles anumite episoade care nu apar destul de clar în relatarea lui Herodot.

В статье предполагается рассмотреть события, происходившие вокруг переправы через Дунай персидского царя Дария I в ходе его кампании против скифов в конце VI в. до н.э. Место переправы (наплавного моста понтонного типа) определяется вполне достоверно, о чём уже неоднократно говорилось в литературе. Рядом с этим местом на левом берегу реки располагается известный археологический памятник – городище Картал. Памятник многослойный. Полноценного слоя (поселения) эпохи поздней архаики, который соответствовал бы этим событиям, не выявлено. Как известно, период функционирования переправы был весьма непродолжительным. Тем не менее, есть небольшая группа находок и отдельные комплексы, которые вполне могут быть с ним связаны. Среди находок преобладает импортная греческая керамика, однако, есть и такие, которые можно отнести к кратковременному пребыванию здесь персов. Некоторые сюжеты, связанные с обустройством переправы через Дунай в более поздние времена, позволяют сделать более понятными отдельные эпизоды, которые в рассказе Геродота выглядят не вполне отчётливо.
