Rezumat

In Romanian religious poetry, and not only, Nichifor Crainic considers poets as “disciples and imitators of God related to Him. This statement is demonstrated by the poems built on biblical motifs, symbols and metaphors, starting with the first volumes, Sesuri natale, Smile in tears, and finishing with the Land beyond the age or the Hawk over the abyss. The preacher is the greatest poet of the undeniable mystery of God. He renders the mystery of God especially as endless light, not as darkness, as Western mystics do, such as Juan de la Cruz, Eckhardt, Bohtne. The figurative meaning of the words results even from the search for lexemes that make the divine matter become transparent and reflect that symbolic image of the mystery. Therefore, the biblical metaphor of Nichifor Crainic’s religious poetry is based on the Holy Scripture as a Christian literary text.
