This article examines the challenges faced by the State Department of Languages in Moldova in the early 1990s. It highlights the difficulties encountered in establishing the department and the obstacles posed by government bureaucracy. The article also discusses the importance of promoting the Romanian language and the need for effective linguistic legislation. It acknowledges the efforts of Professor Ion Dumeniuk, the former director of the department, in pushing for the establishment of the institution. Finally, it raises concerns about the lack of support and attention given to the department’s mission.
