Chlorinated oxidants and the enhancement of the oxidative stress increase the advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) in vivo [1]. Aim of the study: to evaluate the changes of AOPPs levels in ovarian torsion (OT) with different detorsion procedures in order to assess the efficacy of the controlled technique (CT) of the restoration of the blood flow as a way for preventing the augmentation of the oxidative reperfusion injuries. Materials and methods: The study included females rats (Rattus albicans), 70 subjects, which were randomly allocated by 10 into 7 lots: 1st (control) – no intervention; 2nd (sham) – only laparotomy; 3rd – 3 hours OT; 4th and 5th – 3 hours OT with 1 hour simple or CT reperfusion; 6th and 7th – 3 hours OT with 24 hours simple or CT reperfusion. The CT was used for two minutes at the beginning of the detorsion period by opening and closing the clips on the ovarian annexes every ten seconds. The measurement of the AOPPs levels was performed spectrophotometrically at 340 nm according to Capeillère-Blandin C., et al. method [2], modified by Gudumac V., et al. [3], using the spectrophotometer PowerWave HT (BioTek Instruments, USA). Welch's ANOVA and Games-Howell post hoc tests were used to analyze the results. The Research Ethics Committee approved the study. Results: No significant difference was identified between the AOPPs amounts in the 1st and 2nd lot (p>0,05). OT augmented insignificantly the AOPPs (p>0,05), while reperfusion increased them in all detorsion lots (p<0,05) compared to 1st lot. The differences between 3rd and 5th (1 hour CT reperfusion) lots were not statistically significant (p>0,05), while simple reperfusion lots (4th and 6th) and 24 hours CT reperfusion lot (7th) AOPPs levels were significantly higher compared to 3rd lot values (p<0,05). Conclusions: AOPPs are useful biomarkers to assess the intensity of oxidative stress in OT. The proposed CT of reperfusion is beneficial in the initial stage after ovarian detorsion. |
