The migraine concepts evolution over the centuries, including
the famous figures who suffered from migraine
Migraine is a disorder known since ancient times and its appearance was interpreted according to views of diverse religious traditions, and existing medical and scientific concepts. Despite the devastating impact of migraine on patient’s quality of life, it has not prevented some outstanding personalities to realize their vocation and talent. Migraine was frequently present in philosophical works, literary, journalistic, autobiographical, and scientific ones. However, relevant diagnostic criteria of migraine have appeared only recently, a few decades ago. Migraine frequently encountered in famous peoples suggested the idea of a possible causal relationship between talent and migraine, as well as the hypothesis about the existence of a
migrainous personality. Despite the attractiveness of these assumptions, profound research that could confirm or refute their veracity has not yet been made. |
