The XXth century, the most fruitful for the development of spiritual and material culture of many peoples, has become the most tragic at the same time, putting humanity on the brink of a global crisis. The First World War, which began in August 1914, subsequently involved 34 states of the globe, killing tens of millions of people, destroyed empires, states, and economies. Tens of thousands of Gagauz fought on the fronts of world wars of the beginning of the 20th century, many of them were awarded orders and medals, rose to senior officer ranks. The Gagauz people showed particular patriotism in this war, there were many cases of donations of all their savings to winning, and some young people went to the front as volunteers. Gagauz folklore is invaluable information carrier reflecting the entire history of the people. Many songs about war are unique, as the soldiers themselves, the participants in military battles, sung them. These songs can be called a trustworthy chronicle of people’s tragedies in the First World War.
