Rezumat

Gambling addiction has multiple severe consequences, and the recovery of people with such addictions would be much more efficient if detected as early as possible in the beginning, respectively during adolescence. Therefore, the current study aims to identify the particularities of this type of addiction in a sample of adolescents (N = 1302, M = .46, SD = .49) - 703 girls (54%), 599 boys (46%), with age between 12 and 18 years (M = 15.01, SD = 1.97), and possible correlations with irrational beliefs, difficulties in emotional regulation strategies, basic psychological needs, tobacco addiction and cannabis addiction. The results show that, compared to girls, boys predominate in all forms of addiction (mild, moderate and severe). This addiction is present in every age group and correlates positively with the total score on irrational beliefs (particularly with intolerance of frustration with rules and overall self-assessment), with difficulties in emotional regulation (subscales: Clarity, Non-acceptance, Impulse and Strategies), with addiction to tobacco and cannabis, but correlates negatively with the level of satisfaction of basic psychological needs (autonomy and relationships). The conclusion is that identifying and changing irrational beliefs, adopting and using more effective emotional regulation strategies, and an approach that facilitates increasing the level of satisfaction of basic psychological needs, may play a role in treating adolescents with gambling addiction.
