In practice the government provided protection against the expulsion or return of refugees to countries where their lives or freedom would be threatened; however, the non governmental organisations considered the time limits provided by the law for submitting appeal applications and court procedures to be too short. Moldova is a major source, and to a lesser extent, a transit country for women and girls trafficked for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation. It is estimated that slightly more than one percent of the approximately 750,000 Moldovans working abroad are trafficking victims. The non governmental organisations stated that government-sponsored programs for integrating refugees continued to improve, although more needed to be done in terms of identifying training opportunities for refugees. |
