Rezumat

Aim: To study the treatment of fever in children with acute respiratory infections at home and during the hospitalization period. Material and methods: The carried out research has included the analysis of 189 clinical files of children hospitalized with acute respiratory infections, aged from 4 mounts to 7 years: 4-12 mounts - 45 (23,8%); 1-3 years - 128 (67,7%) and older then 3 years - 16 (8,5%) children. The exclution criterias from the study were: child’s age below 3 months; associated disorders of the Central Nevous System; congenital malformations or chronic diseases; history of febrile seizures; severe evolution of ARI. The review included therapeutical approaches for febrile syndrome on different stages of healthcare of the child. Results: Results of the research revealed that terapeutic management of the febrile syndrome had many deficiencies: in 28% inappropriate use of antipyretic drugs by caregivers (at body temperatures below 38˚C); the hydration of children with fever was provided at a very low level (in 22% of children); the use of Metamisole was widespread (23,4%). Contrary to our expectations, the source of information for parents regarding the treatment of children with fever was not always the doctor, as many parents better followed advices from relatives, friends and pharmacyst. Family doctors and paediatricians were consulted in only 43,9% and 10,1 % cases, respectively. Conclusions: Results of the study showed that the existing wrond recommendations in the treatment of fever at children with acute respiratory infections are explained by the low level of information of mothers regarding the care of a sick child at home and some confusion of the national recommendations of fever management at children.
