Diagnoses methods in pelvic inflammatory disease
Pelvic inflammatory Disease (PID) is a common clinical condition consisting of
ascending infection from the lower to upper genital tract, prevalent is consequence of sexually
transmitted infections, affecting many women every year in the world. Over 20% of cases are in
adolescents and young adults. PID can have serious complications such as the development of
tubo-ovarian abscess and is associated with long-term squeal including ectopic pregnancy,
chronic pelvic pain, and infertility. Patients with acute PID may present in a variety of ways,
from the critically ill to the essentially asymptomatic. Likewise, the physical findings are often
nonspecific; rarely are dramatic. Multiple methods have been recommended to aid in the
diagnosis of PID. However, invasive procedures are not suitable for screening all patients,
because of their expense and associated morbidity. As an adjunct to clinical assessment,
transabdominal and transvaginal sonography is a non invasive and rapid method that enables
visualization of the pelvic structures. |
