Botoșani County has an important architectural capital since the period of democratic state in function which has been preserved over time during the communist regime. The consequences of this totalitarian and antidemocratic regime are still being felt, after 1990, the reconstitution of property ownership of this heritage confiscated by the communists has been cumbersome and often delayed. This situation led to the complete destruction of mansions, while those which had fulfilled social functions (orphanages, schools, health centers or nursing homes with a strict diet etc) were bought by the county administration in order to further invest in their modernization.
