Achieving energy security of the UE as the main dimensions decrease dependence on conventional sources, increasing the share of renewables in production and consumption, increasing energy efficiency, diversification of sources and routes of natural gas transmission, finalizing the interconnection between EU countries so that no member state will not remain isolates in situation of crisis. The common energy objectives are: competitiveness, security of supply and sustainability. By 2020 three main objectives must be achieved: reducing CO2 emissions by 20% compared to 1990 increasing to 20% the proportion which represents renewable sources of total EU energy mix and increasing energy efficiency by 20%. These objectives are, as well, basic elements of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.
