In the early nineteenth century, during the Russo-Turkish War from 1806-1812, there has been produced the internationalization of Romanian Principalities’ problem. If during the eighteenth century the main actors in the Eastern Question dispute were the Ottoman Empire, the Russian Empire and the Austrian Empire, so, in the early nineteenth century in this dispute were also involved France and England, and the Principalities’ problem from regional turned into an international one. In the structure of political combinations and diplomatic duels of the early nineteenth century, Principalities appeared like chess pieces on the diplomatic negotiations table, being threatened with a total or partial annexation, or projected as exchange items in territorial combinations of the major powers, involved in the Eastern Question. The radical change of the attitude of the Cabinet from Petersburg towards the Romanian Principalities was determined by the Russian-French treaties, signed on 25 June / July 7, 1807, at Tilsit, where tacitly were delineated spheres of influence in Europe between Russia and France. |
