Background. SARS-CoV-2 is a declared pandemic and health threat. Previously identified SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV from the same Betacoronavirus genus had neurological implications. Neurological involvement of SARS-CoV-2 is ill-defined and demands attention. Objective of the study. To emphasize the relationship between neurological comorbidities and SARS-CoV-2 and its management. Material and Methods. A systematic review of PubMed and ResearchGate articles using the mentioned keywords. Results. The researches inferred about one-tenth of patients with existing neurological comorbidities develop SARS-CoV-2. These include but not limit to patients with autoimmune disorders such as MG, LEMS, MMN; degenerative disorders such as neuropathy, myopathy, SMA, ALS; on immunosuppressive therapy; elderly; immobile; etc. The comorbidities and their conventional management regimes pose as risk factors for their exacerbation in SARS-CoV-2. Certain studies emphasized to develop an individualized plan for neurological patients with and at risk for SARS- CoV-2. Progression needs careful monitoring and management. Conclusion. Neurological comorbidities increased susceptibility and presented in SARS-CoV-2 patients. Neurologists need to differentiate existing comorbidities and SARS-CoV-2 to avoid misdiagnosis and develop individualized plan to maintain treatment and prevent exacerbation. |
