Rezumat

If you're aiming at tracing your Jewish ancestors in Moldova (former Bessarabia) you ought to conduct genealogical research in the National Archive of Moldova. And the first reference guide you should read: “Jewish roots in Ukraine and Moldova. Pages from the Past and Archival Inventories”, book written by Miriam Weiner in 1999. But now this volume can be supplemented by recently discovered archival documents. It is hard to name all the newly found inventories and folders. Just to name a few of those referring to Jewish history: Early various Jewish records on Kishinev, Rezina, Orgeev, Faleshty of 1849, Jewish lists on Bendery for 1868, revision lists of Jews who came from Podolsky Province of 1875, Jewish Family lists of 1910 for Kishinev, some maps with the names of land owners merchants' lists and personal folders of many Jews who lived and owned property in Bessarabia at different times. Last two years the Archive has received more than 5000 personal folders of many victims of political repression, including many personal Jewish files from the Archive of State Security of Moldova. Now the part of these records are being indexed. Provided you have a notarized letter indicating your relationship with the victim, you will be granted permission to research these, until quite recently, classified as top secret documents.
