Based on the materials of rural household registers from 1947-1949 the article shows demographic catastrophes that took place in Moldavia in Gagauz villages called Dezginzha, Dzholtai and Kiriet-Lunga. Hard postwar years, famine in 1946-1947, repressions of 1949 brought serious human losses in Gagauz villages. Along with a decrease in birth rate, an increase in mortality rate, including child mortality, significant demographic losses in Gagauz villages were also caused by deportation of the population to the Urals and some regions of Siberia and Kazakhstan, forced migration from Moldavia to towns and villages of other USSR regions. |
