Rezumat

This paper aims at approaching the complex personality of Academician Jean d'Ormesson from three prospects: the journalist, the philosopher and the writer. He was born on June 16th, 1925 in Paris, in an aristocratic family. Therefore, he had a privileged education, this he defended the bachelor degree in 1949, although he had failed a year before, later, in 1949, he enrols at the Normal Superior School, where he studies the literature and the history. In 1949, he achieved the right of aggregation in philosophy. He is assigned the General Secretary of the International Philosophy Council of UNESCO in 1950. He publishes his first novel L'amour est un plaisir/Love Is a Pleasure in 1956, but the true success came when he published the novel La gloire de l'Empire/ Glory of the Empire in 1971, for which the French Academy awarded him the Grand Prize of the Novel. He becomes member of the French Academy in 1973 and member of honour of the Romanian Academy in 1995. Several years later as he became member, he is the one who by his speech made possible to be assigned the quality of the French Academy member to the first woman, Marguerite Yorcenar, qualifying the new quality of his colleague as “a pacific and vivid revolution”. Author of about forty operas that go from great historical imaginary portraits to philosophical essays, sharing his reflections about life, death and existence of God. His journalistic debut took place at Paris Match, dailies Ouest-France, Nice-Matin and Progres de Lyon. He became the general director of Figaro in 1974. He was considered more than forty years as media ambassador of the French Academy, being a frequent guest of different broadcasts due to his erudition and art of conversation. Jean d'Ormesson was the man that professed the admiration and the wonder, being gifted with the serenity to paint human portraits.
