Rezumat | ||||||
Language is always connected to everyday development, to the latest technical and scientific innovations. This connection is made at the level of vocabulary, where the relation language-society manifests in two different ways: on the one hand, through borrowings and the creation of new words and, on the other, through the semantic broadening of the words already existing in language. New meanings seem to have a deep influence on people with a medium educational level. What is interesting about them is not the necessity of their entering a certain language but their imperative presence in a specific context. Literature mentions various origins and explanations for the multiple meanings of many words but they can be reduced to the influence of a foreign language: first French, then English, and, more recently, Russian. Unfortunately, the use of these words with their new meaning, without knowing their true significance may lead to inappropriate substitutions, distorting the intended message. For instance, the word afacerist is used correctly only with its first meaning, the second being out-of-line in our opinion. We consider that the multitude of words taken from French, English and Russian and circulated by some speakers, in the absence of any selection criteria, makes communication more difficult. We emphasize this stage not in order to deny the need of using new meanings and words but to argue in favour of a more correct usage of these lexical units |
